Astana hosted the international conference “The Health and Well-Being of Every Child: Modern Strategies for Child Health Protection”, bringing together representatives from healthcare, international organizations and expert communities.
The event included a ceremony recognizing the partnership for the health of children and adolescents.
The University Medical Center (UMC) was awarded the distinction “For Innovation and Quality Improvement in Specialized Care for Children and Families.”
The ceremony was presented by Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization.
These achievements reflect UMC’s systematic efforts to advance modern medicine, implement innovative approaches, and improve the quality of care for children and their families. UMC clinics place significant emphasis on a comprehensive approach, from diagnosis and treatment to long-term patient monitoring.
During the ceremony Professor Tamara Chuvakova (physician with more than four decades of professional experience who stood at the origins of the development of neonatology in Kazakhstan) received a special award “For outstanding contribution to the development of neonatal services and newborn health in Kazakhstan.” The award was presented by Hans-Henri Kluge, WHO Regional Director for Europe.
Professor Chuvakova dedicated many years to working at the Mother and Child Center, where she made a significant contribution to the development of neonatal care services and the training of specialists. Her professional path and contributions continue to serve as a benchmark for an entire generation of physicians. Thanks to her work and dedication to her profession, the survival rate of premature babies in Kazakhstan has significantly improved and neonatology has become one of the country’s leading fields of medicine.
The conference in Astana became an important international platform for exchanging experiences and strengthening partnerships between countries in the field of children’s health. Participants reaffirmed their shared commitment to developing systemic solutions aimed at improving the quality and accessibility of medical care, as well as creating a safe and supportive environment for every child.
